How to Build a Working E-commerce Product Using Voucherify in One Week? – MACHathon Recap

MACHathon, a Hackaton organized by MACH Alliance, took place virtually, on January 22-29th, 2021. The challenge given by MACH Alliance was to help people get virtually unstuck and create clever products to alleviate the loneliness and mental strain brought about by series of never-ending lockdowns. 

As MACH Alliance has phrased the challenge: 

“Due to COVID-19’s grip on the world, most of us have experienced what it means to be stuck at home. While that experience is new to many, it has always been the routine for those with health challenges and disabilities - with or without COVID-19. For our MACHathon, show up with your ideas how to help people get virtually un-stuck.”

Seventeen teams from around the world had one week to invent a solution and turn their idea into reality using MACH-certified technologies and composable architectures.

MACHathon members from the MACH ecosystem made their products and knowledge available to the teams including technical and practical support. Voucherify has provided access to its product and technical support to the MACHaton participants.

We are delighted to see two of the participating teams have chosen Voucherify as part of their project. We’re more than happy to see one of the teams receive the Maturity Award (for a submission that offers the most complete end-to-end solution) sponsored by Commercetools. Congratulations!

i-Electra Project – a PoC with Voucherify gift cards

i-Electra, the project that was awarded the Maturity prize, is a simple shopping experience with curbside pickup created by a team from Infosys. The solution helps small retailers get online quickly and safely deliver their products by bringing together curbside pickup, live chat, personalized content, voice search and a gift card campaign (powered by Voucherify) for faster market adoption in a fully responsive experience across desktop and mobile.

They have used the following MACH products – Commerce Tools, Content Stack, Algolia, Voucherify & Uniform.

“We were able to build a fully functional solution with five different products from the MACH Alliance. We were able to do this within a week despite having little or no exposure to most of these products.”

EPAM project – Charity PoC with Voucherify

The second project was built by the EPAM team with Voucherify as part of their technology stack. It was a complex CSR promotional scenario where part of your order totals spent in an e-commerce store would be donated to a medical fund, fighting COVID-19. The proportion donated to this cause would be calculated dynamically, based on current infected/healed ratio. The data about COVID infected/healed ratio is taken from an openly available API, calculated in a custom microservices, sent to Voucherify.io for promotion validation rules management and applied as a promotional campaign in BigCommerce.
